How easy is your website content to read? When visitors read your website content, they don’t read it like they would a newspaper or magazine article.
They scan. Glancing over the words, looking for the information they need to satisfy the reason for them being on your site. Visitors don’t visit your site to see it, they visit to use it.
If your SEO is working, they have found your site because it offers a solution to their problems. And so they don’t want to spend time searching your content for the important information they want, they spend a few minutes at best.
So you must make your content easy to read and digest.
Tips for making your content easy to read
📝 Use short paragraphs of just a few sentences – you don’t need to write war and peace; just a few sentences in each paragraph is fine – so long as its concise and informative
📑 Separate paragraphs with headings and sub-headings – screen readers and those with a sight impairment will find it easier to separate content by headings and sub-headings
📌 Use bullet points to break up text – who doesn’t love a list!
📷 Include ‘relevant’ images to break up text blocks – images can play a key role in the readability of your content
The WordPress editor and the Yoast SEO plugin help with this process, as well as improving your SEO performance. If you want to find out more about this subject, I recommend reading the Readability Guidelines UK website.
