SEO stands for ‘search engine optimisation’. It’s the art of optimising your website to improve its performance in search engine results pages (known as SERPs). SEO can be broken down into 4 specific sections – I like to call them the ‘building blocks of SEO’. I’ve listed them below, but we cover each one in more detail later in this course.
- Technical SEO – technical SEO looks at the technical aspects which enable search engines to index web pages on your website;
- Content SEO – content SEO ensures your content is properly optimised so search engines understand what the content is about;
- On-Site SEO – on-site SEO looks at the structure of your web pages to ensure they are correctly formatted; and
- Off-Site SEO – off-site SEO ensures your social media channels and local search elements are properly optimised.
Whilst SEO can be a very technically challenging aspect of owning your website, it doesn’t have to be complicated. Breaking down SEO into manageable chunks is the easiest way to ensure your site is optimised for search engines.
